Frank Shepherd received an MA in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University and a PhD from Imperial College. After a Post Doc at the University of British Columbia, he joined Bell Northern Research in 1978 to develop thin film transistors for flat panel displays. He also managed Materials and Device Analysis, and Optoelectronic Device Fabrication groups, supporting transfer of optoelectronic device manufacturing to Nortel Networks, including the establishment of a state of the art III-V Wafer fab. In 2004 he joined NRC as Technical Manager to help establish the Canadian Photonics Fabrication Center, the first pure play indium phosphide wafer fabrication facility in North America. He is presently involved in the expansion of CPFC’s facilities, capabilities, and capacity to support the needs of all its clients, which span from concept to commercialization.
